Individually owned condos are really the way to go when visiting Maui on your vacation.  Many hotels and true resorts are awesome, but for those looking to budget more money for fun and entertainment, condos offer a great deal with full kitchens and many in beautiful locations right on the water (like Maui Kai 301) or with fantastic ocean views and island views(like Hana Kai 206)!
